Who's the addict

Heroine consumption is being wide spread among the youth, in such a way, that society has less and less means of correct treatments or suitable supports. The victims of this illness are not faced as patients, but as condemned of crimes they may not have committed. For instance, an asmatic patient going to an hospital, every time has a dispnoea crisis, is treated as a patient. An addict, going to an hospital in crisis, is treated as a junkie.

Some of the therapeutic choices, until now, have been remedies such as additive opiate replacements (methadone) and long term isolation from the society. Rehabilitation centres throughout the world offer individuals suffering from opiate dependency, procedures based on suffering for a long and tormenting withdrawal syndrome. From all the addicts initiating a detoxification a majority give up, and of the minority completing all the detox process a huge amount relapse. Sudden withdrawal induced by treatment, at home or in specialised centres, causes a traumatic stress disorder, initiating all a set of serious consequences injuring the human mind and body.
